Diet advice

Use the Diabetes Plate at lunch and dinner

Fill half the plate with non-starchy vegetables, one quarter with lean protein, and one quarter with carbohydrate foods such as whole grains, beans, or fruit. It is the American Diabetes Association's simplest everyday tool.

  1. Start the meal with vegetables and protein; save the starch for last if you notice big spikes.
  2. Choose water, unsweetened tea, or coffee. Skip regular soda and juice with meals.
  3. Add a 10-minute walk after eating when you can.
